Not much is known about Billy the Kid, not even his last name. His first name was Henry, and his last name was either McCarty or Bonney. He was born in 1859 in either Indiana or New York. His first brush with the law was a $70 robbery.He was 12 years old when this happened.He is said to have been left handed, when in actual fact, he was ambidextrous, but primarily right handed. Billy the Kid was shot and died on 14 July 1881.

Billy the Kid has been romanticized as being 12 years old when he first killed a man, illiterate, with no schooling. Many people think that there were "Wanted" posters up all over for Billy, and that he shot a man for snoring too loud at a hotel. The most famous of all myths is that Billy killed 21 men, one for each year of his life, when in actual fact, he only ever killed nine, 5 of them he was only a participant in the killing.
